SIM & TAST Overview
Understanding Comfort and Positioning for Plus-Size Bodies

Plus-size individuals face specific positioning challenges that most intimacy guides fail to address honestly. The primary challenges are: weight distribution during partner-on-top positions, reduced hip mobility in certain angles, abdominal volume affecting penetration depth and angle, and joint comfort during sustained positions.

These are mechanical challenges with practical solutions — not permanent limitations. The styles in this SIM & TAST guide are selected specifically because they distribute weight effectively, require minimal joint strain, accommodate abdominal volume comfortably and give the plus-size partner full control of depth, rhythm and angle.

Every body is capable of deeply pleasurable sex. The goal of this guide is to remove the trial and error and give plus-size couples direct access to what works — so they can focus entirely on pleasure and connection rather than logistics.

The Side Spoon
Best for: both plus-size partners — zero body weight pressure, maximum closeness
What It Is

Both partners lie on their sides in a spooning position — giving partner behind the receiving partner. This is one of the most effective positions for plus-size couples because no body weight is placed on top of the other partner at any point. Both partners are fully supported by the mattress throughout, eliminating the primary comfort concern of weight distribution.

How to Position
  • 1Both partners lie on their sides facing the same direction — receiving partner in front. Bodies should be close, with the giving partner’s chest against the receiving partner’s back.
  • 2Receiving partner draws their top knee forward slightly and places it on a firm pillow. This external hip rotation opens the hip angle and allows comfortable rear entry without straining either partner’s joints.
  • 3The giving partner enters from behind at a gentle angle. Movement is slow and rhythmic — generated by both partners’ hips working together. The giving partner’s lower arm can wrap around the receiving partner’s waist or chest for closeness.
Why It Works for Plus-Size Bodies

Side-lying positions are biomechanically ideal for plus-size couples because the mattress bears all body weight for both partners simultaneously. There is no risk of the giving partner’s weight causing discomfort, no need for arm-propping, and no hip strain from one partner trying to hold themselves above the other. The position is also naturally depth-limiting — providing comfortable, pleasurable sensation without the risk of uncomfortable deep penetration.

Special Note from O.N.A

A firm, supportive mattress makes a significant difference in the quality of this position for plus-size couples. A mattress that sinks too much under both partners’ weight creates a valley effect that pushes both partners toward the centre — reducing hip mobility. If the mattress is soft, placing a folded firm blanket or thin yoga mat under the receiving partner’s hip area provides a more stable surface for the hip-opening movement.

The Edge Supported
Best for: plus-size receiving partner — bed edge creates natural hip support
What It Is

The receiving partner lies on their back at the edge of the bed with their hips at the very edge and feet resting on the floor or on the giving partner’s hips. The giving partner stands between their legs. This position is particularly effective for plus-size receiving partners because the bed edge provides firm support directly under the hips — the area that typically needs the most structural support.

How to Position
  • 1Receiving partner moves to the edge of the bed — hips at the very edge, legs hanging off the side. A pillow under the lower back may add comfort for some individuals. The firm bed edge directly under the hips provides a natural, stable support surface.
  • 2Receiving partner’s feet rest on the floor, on the giving partner’s hips or on a low stool depending on the bed height. The floor option provides the receiving partner with additional leverage and stability.
  • 3Giving partner stands between the receiving partner’s legs. The standing position means the giving partner bears none of their own weight on the receiving partner at any point — making this position completely pressure-free for the receiving partner.
Why It Works for Plus-Size Bodies

For plus-size receiving partners, the primary issue in lying-down positions is often that the natural softness of the abdomen and hip area changes the penetration angle in ways that reduce depth and sensation. The edge of the bed provides a firm, neutral surface directly under the hips that corrects this — creating a stable base from which the receiving partner can tilt their hips to find their optimal angle without relying on pillows that shift or compress during movement.

Special Note from O.N.A

Bed height is an important variable in this position. The ideal bed height brings the receiving partner’s hips to approximately the giving partner’s standing hip level. A standard bed of 24 to 26 inches typically works well for average-height giving partners. If the bed is too low, a thick folded blanket under the receiving partner’s hips raises them to the correct height. If the bed is too high, the giving partner standing on a yoga mat or thin platform lowers the height differential.
